TexTalk News Textmode Podcast

PHATstar has been working to make a news podcast about the textmode computing scene.  We will host TexTalk News on this website under https://phatstar.net/textalknews.  Each episode will be a deep dive into a specific aspect of textmode computing, with a focus on bulletin board systems.  The content will be mirrored at: https://bbsday.org/textalknews.

BBS Day February 16th

We thought that there we so many other things that have their own day to celebrate their progress.  So… we made www.bbsday.org, and it was a lot of fun.  We have tried to be inclusive of various aspects of the BBSing hobby.  We promote various different kinds of bulletin board system software, including Mystic BBS, Synchronet BBS, and Enigma1/2.  I could describe the many great things about www.bbsday.org, however I think it would work better if you just visited the website.  It is full and complete, while continuing to be updated often.  Check it out, I think that you will like what you see.

Meet the crew: The people behind the PHATstar Society…

We are a group of several people who are on fire for God.  We are all Christians who care about people and wish them well.  It is our goal to save souls for Jesus Christ.  Our members include cr1mson, k9zw, anonymous, and warmfuzzy.  cr1mson is deeply knowledgeable in advanced computer systems, k9zw is an amateur radio enthusiast who is highly versed in electronics, broadcasting, and emergency comms, anonymous is very fluent in server systems using Linux—he can get things done that others give up on, and finally warmfuzzy is the coordinator of The Society who has leadership skills, has ideas that are made to be a thing, and is a career computer professional.

Our projects on the go include the following…

We are a new Society.  We have been a thing since 2017 and have been ever working on our projects with lots of passion in making good things happen.  These are a brief listing on what we're up to: bulletin board system projects, scene website design, making BBS door apps, running file servers for The Scene… more details in depth can be found in the “projects” menu/tab.

Back from the rubbish bin, our website gets a new look and feel…

This is what it looks like when a website goes down and is being revamped.  We were using a popular web hosting platform and found that we got a notice that we've been using too much RAM with our servers.  The servers were then transitioned to to a VPS, which is like a dedicated server down-scaled a little.  The connection details were not easy to use and there was a lot of stuff going on that was rubbish.  So we tossed the rubbish into the bin and went to a new WordPress hosting platform.  Here we go!!  It is our second attempt at making an amazing Society webpage, let's roll!
